Glossary

Definitions of the Solana and Shredo terms used in the documentation: shreds, decoded transactions, deduplication, gaps, signed catalogues and tombstones.

Decoded transaction

A signed Solana transaction reconstructed from observed shreds. Signature validation does not prove that the transaction executed or became final.

Deduplication

Suppressing repeated packets for the same shred identity before UDP delivery.

Gap

A point where complete continuity cannot be proven. Recovery follows the selected stream’s published reconnect contract.

Shred

A packet-sized unit used by Solana’s data propagation and erasure-recovery pipeline.

Signed catalogue

An immutable, verifiable inventory generation containing pool identities, dependencies, lineage, and tombstones.

Tombstone

An explicit removal record in a catalogue generation, allowing consumers to remove a pool identity without treating an incomplete download as a deletion.
